I have been to a jw wedding and recall saying to my mrs as the elder droned on "he will be getting the WT out soon".

I do not like it at weddings either but at you are not emotionally volnerable like you are at a funeral.

so, a good friend of mine, a pentecostal christian, invited me to go to a retreat with her church.

we're the same age-19 years.

we were friends before i became a witness and she was always patient and caring with me especially throughout my arrogant spell as a witness.

I have to say I am ashamed of the way I treated disfellowshipped people when I was a JW. It wasn't as if they were some evil mass murderer or pedophile (not that the JW's know anything about these types) but because they may have not seen eye to eye with the WBTS we were forced to shun them.

If it was just myself I would push it more but then there is more family members that will want the JW BS then ones that don't. Also this is my dad's wishes so I would have to go along it. I recall a JW cousin that did the memorial at his sisters a non-believers home. I would think it was a compromise, although they did have a memorial service in the town where his mother, the deceased live. It was the best service I was ever at. Although my JW cousin read a few scriptures most of the time was spent on remembering the deceased. Again it was because it was a private ceremony and no JW elders there.

have any been keeping up with anointedjw.coms gentle efforts to help the governing body, and all the rest of jehovahs witnesses, come to realize that there is just one hope for all christians the heavenly hope.

it will be very interesting to see how effective their efforts will have been at the up-coming memorial of christs death.

anointed.com is expecting that the number of those who will partake of the emblems may double from 12,000 to 24,000. .

The memorial service is not about your father. If you are lucky it will be given by an elder who knew him well and is willing to talk about him as a person. However the memorial service is just an excuse for them to preach their religion and the person is very much overlooked. The time is deliberately short to prevent the elder straying from the approved text.

I have been to some memorial services that the elder given the talk got the deseased name or personal info wrong or you can tell they just read it off a piece of paper. When it comes to their sales pitch they know that BS off by heart.

I would like to say one thing too the WBTS GB, how can you f%^$# people live with yourselves? To take abdvantage of a persons grief is the lowest of the low. I know after the first 5 minutes when they get into their sales pitch, I will be turning off my brain.

Just had a shep visit

we had a nice "encouraging" chat about my inactivity.

they went through the usual guilt routine, that didnt seem to work so they turned to fear.

The one guy was trying really hard to relate to me, while the other one was getting frustrated that i wouldnt see things his way.

I agree that there is some good elders that genuinely care but the bottom line is their first priority is to "protect the congregation spirituality" and if they think you can be a poisonous influence to the other members of the congregation their first priority is the congregation.

I did one for him already and hopefully play it after the service. Just irritates me that you are not allowed to grieve and pay tributes in your own way. It should be what the family wants not what the WTS wants.

Also I was asked to do the write up in the newspaper obituary and I wanted to say "celebration of my -------- life" and was told that was not approved by the WTS. I don't give a rats a$$ what they are celebrating or trying to push I am celebrating my fathers life.
